In a time before social media, we posted with staple guns.
When I passed this utility pole on the sidewalk in West Asheville in the perfect sunlight, the staples whispered like the ghosts of thousands of messages it has held over the decades. I began to wonder... How many messages? What did they say? Where did they lead? How many lost cats and dogs? How many one-night-only shows? How many bands that no longer exist, and what do all those musicians do now? Did their children play in bands, too? How may ironic in-jokes? How many invitations to experiences of any kind? How many people followed these clues, and how were their lives changed by what they found there? This pole is a nexus of a million experiences.
